Mr Michael Mokawem is a Consultant Orthopaedic Spinal Surgeon and Lead for the Endoscopic (Minimally Invasive) Spinal Surgery Service at The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore, London. The Spinal Surgery Unit at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital is internationally recognised for its pioneering work and volume of complex cases and is one of the largest spinal deformity services in Europe. Mr Mokawem also practises privately at Cleveland Clinic London.

In both his NHS and private practice, Mr Mokawem treats adult and paediatric patients and specialises in all aspects of spinal surgery. He has particular expertise in paediatric and adult spinal deformity, as well as complex degenerative conditions of the spine. He offers both conservative and operative management and is committed to empowering patients through education and shared decision-making.

Mr Mokawem is internationally recognised for his leadership in minimally invasive and robotic-guided spinal surgery. He led the development of the endoscopic spinal surgery service at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, which launched in 2022, and continues to play a key role in advancing modern, evidence-based surgical techniques aimed at improving outcomes, safety, and recovery.

Alongside his clinical practice, Mr Mokawem is deeply involved in education and training. He teaches undergraduate and postgraduate trainees and currently serves as clinical supervisor for two spinal surgery fellows in the final year of their specialist training.

Mr Mokawem regularly presents at national and international spinal surgery conferences and has published in peer-reviewed journals.

He has undertaken medicolegal training with Inspire MediLaw and has an expanding medicolegal practice, providing expert opinion on breach of duty, causation, condition, and prognosis. Mr Mokawem accepts direct instructions from solicitors and works with a number of specialist medicolegal agencies.
