Mr Nicholas Haden is an adult and paediatric Consultant Neurosurgeon with over 17 years of experience, currently practicing at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. He previously worked at the South West Neurosurgical Centre and also practices privately at the Hospital of St John and St Elizabeth and The Princess Grace Hospital.

A graduate of the University of Cambridge, Mr Haden completed his neurosurgical training with distinction, receiving the Norman Dott Medal. He undertook the National Spine Fellowship in Leeds and a further fellowship at the Barrow Neurological Institute.

Mr Haden specialises in minimally invasive and navigated spinal surgery and is recognised nationally for his expertise in cervical and craniocervical conditions, particularly in patients with hypermobility. As a member of the London Sarcoma Service, he has supraspecialist expertise in cervical and thoracic tumours. His practice encompasses complex spinal conditions, including intradural and intramedullary pathologies, spinal cord dysraphism, and cerebrospinal fluid leaks.

He has contributed to national clinical practice through roles with the DENS Trial Data Monitoring Committee and the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, where he served on the Transmission of CJD in Surgery Committee and as Clinical Lead for the 2023 Spinal Metastases and Metastatic Spinal Cord Compression Guidelines.

Mr Haden has held senior leadership roles, including Clinical Director of Neurosurgery at University Hospitals Plymouth, and positions within the Peninsula and North West London Regional Spinal Networks. He currently chairs the British Syringomyelia and Chiari Group.

Widely respected in the UK and Europe, Mr Haden is actively involved in surgical training, has published extensively, and delivers the Terema Human Factors Course within the NHS. He also serves on the committee of the Confidential Reporting System in Surgery (CORESS).

Mr Haden can provide expert advice on breach of duty, causation, condition and prognosis and takes direct instructions from solicitors, as well as working through a number of specialist medicolegal agencies.
